Why we built this
A UAE dental clinic running ads pays somewhere between AED 80 and 350 for one patient to actually enquire. That's the easy part to measure, because an ad platform hands you the number. What nobody measures is the other half: what happens the moment that patient lands on the clinic's own website, at 9pm on a Thursday, and asks a question.
So we stopped guessing and checked. Not a survey. Not an estimate borrowed from a US vendor's blog post. 105 real UAE dental clinic websites, each one fetched and read the way a patient's browser reads it, then scored on what it actually offers.
The pattern
Put the six numbers above next to each other and one shape falls out: the clinics spending the most to get a patient to their site are, on average, no better equipped to answer them than the ones spending nothing. Running Google Ads doesn't correlate with having a chat widget, a booking link, or even a published privacy policy. The marketing budget and the front door are two different departments that have never spoken to each other.
That gap is exactly what an unmanned enquiry costs. A patient who messages at night and gets silence doesn't wait until morning. Dental clinics in the UAE aren't scarce, and the next one is a search away.
The full data
Every figure below is n = 105, the same 105 clinics throughout, so the percentages are directly comparable to each other. Six clinics were measured and deliberately held out of every number here pending an independent-ownership check; they'll be added once that's resolved, never silently.
The front door: what's actually there
| Signal | Present | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Real-time chat widget | 8 (8%) | Tawk.to ×5, HubSpot, Zoho SalesIQ, Tidio, every one confirmed human-staffed |
| — AI-branded responder | 0 (0%) | Zero. Confirmed by a person, not a script guessing from a vendor's name |
| WhatsApp click-to-chat | 77 (73%) | Only 54 of the 105 (51%) go to a number that can actually receive a WhatsApp message; the rest point at a landline or toll-free number |
| Contact form on homepage | 86 (82%) | |
| Real self-serve online booking | 1 (1%) | One clinic, out of 105 |
| Opening hours published, any form | 62 (59%) | |
| — machine-readable (schema.org) | 40 (38%) | Only this subset can show "Open now" in a Google result |
| Arabic-language version | 26 (25%) |
Who's paying to fill that front door
| Signal | Present | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Any ad or retargeting pixel | 45 (43%) | Google Ads, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, LinkedIn Insight or Snap Pixel all count |
| — Google Ads | 37 (35%) | |
| — Meta Pixel | 20 (19%) | |
| — TikTok Pixel | 1 (1%) | |
| No analytics of any kind | 22 (21%) | These clinics can't see what they're losing even if they wanted to |
| Paying for traffic, zero chat widget | 39 (37%) | The exact shape of a clinic bleeding paid enquiries into silence |
Trust and compliance signals
| Signal | Present | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| No privacy policy link, anywhere | 67 (64%) | Collecting a name and phone number with no disclosure is a UAE PDPL exposure, not a cosmetic gap |
| No clinic/LocalBusiness schema | 75 (71%) | Structurally invisible to Google as a medical business, whatever the page says in plain text |
| Mobile viewport tag present | 104 (99%) | |
| Click-to-call link present | 95 (90%) |
Only 37 of the 105 clinics publish opening hours in a form a machine can actually parse. Everyone else's hours, if they exist at all, sit in a sentence a script can't safely trust. Among those 37: a median of 94 of the week's 168 hours is unmanned, open a median of 74. Seven of the 37 are unmanned more than 112 hours a week, closed more than they're open, by their own published schedule.
How we measured this
Three requests per clinic: the homepage, the Google Tag Manager container if the homepage declares one (a chat widget injected through GTM is invisible in the raw homepage HTML, and it's how the first version of this audit missed real widgets), and the contact or booking page. A crawler that identifies itself, the same way we'd expect a clinic's own tools to identify themselves to us.
The rule that matters most: a vendor only counts as present if its script or link resolves to that vendor's real host, never a word that happens to appear in the page's text or a CSS class name. Early versions of this method got that wrong in both directions: a WordPress shadow-effect preset named crisp once read as the Crisp chat widget, and a config field that was empty read as a scheduler being present. Both are fixed. Every positive we report now carries the exact string that produced it.
The AI-responder field is the one number in this whole report that never gets set automatically. A script may flag a site as "worth a human look" if it finds a known AI-widget host. Only a person converts that into a confirmed yes or no, and once a person has ruled a clinic in or out, an automated re-run is not allowed to overwrite that call. Zero percent is a serious claim to make about a whole market; it doesn't get to rest on a regex.
The first run of our unmanned-hours parser reported a median of 148 of 168 hours a week unmanned: the average UAE clinic open 20 hours a week. That's absurd on its face, and it stopped us before it went anywhere near this page. The cause: our regex matched three-letter day names like "Mon", but schema.org's own standard shorthand is two letters ("Mo", "Tu", "We"), so a clinic open all seven days was being counted as open for one. We rebuilt the parser, gave it ten hand-computed test cases before trusting it again, and hand-checked the result against eight real clinics. The corrected, published figure is the 94 hours above. We're showing our own mistake here on purpose. A report that claims to measure everyone else's front door has to survive being checked itself.
What this means if you run a clinic
If your site runs an ad pixel and doesn't have a chat widget, you're very likely in the 37% — paying to send someone to a page that has nothing to say back to them after hours. That's not a guess about your specific clinic; it's the most common single pattern in this data. Publishing a privacy policy and marking your hours up in schema.org's format are both free, structural fixes that most of the 105 haven't made yet, which means making them is a real, if small, edge.
None of this requires taking our word for it. Send us your own domain (see the FAQ below) and we'll check your front door the same way, at no cost.
